Workshop #2 LAB.LAND
San Pablo, Brazil
2018

The Workshop was organized by MAPA Architects and Casas na Terra. There we multiple local and international guests belonging to multiple relating disciplines: architecture and landscape, prefabrication, design and art, fashion and collaborative processes. Jackson Araújo (BRA), David Barragán (EQU) and Lucía Koch (BRA). The event took place in the idyllic landscapes of Fazenda Catuçaba, a unique enclave located in the oceanic mountain range of southeastern Brazil, with 450 hectares of land to explore and operate.

LAB.LAND: Experiences of Landscape is an opportunity to reflect upon the new relationships that arise with the landscapes of our present times. On the twenty-first century where we are experiencing multiple, complex and simultaneous realities, our understanding capacities are challenged and it becomes urgent to work together to interpret uncertainties and envision alternatives.

We worked intensely for 3 days, inhabiting the landscape and following a strong calendar of conferences, discussions, project workshops, experiential mappings, visits to the MINIMOD Catuçaba (MAPA projects) and Modernist House of MK27, with the objective of developing and constructing interventions to impact the landscape.

The workshop intended to reflect upon 3 complementary themes: BODY, garment, survival, the intimacy range, MATTER, elements, raw material, primitive constructions; COMMUNITY, culture, transformation of meanings, new cultural landscapes. We were interested in deepening the relationship between prefabrication and landscape, the artificial and the natural, the ephemeral and the permanent.
