E-Box Parkings
Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil
2002-2003
The E-BOX does not follow the common configuration of the other parking lots. Our design intention was to prove that the limitations imposed by the function, program and dimensions of the plot are not an obstacle to provide quality of space.

Common to any big city in Brazil, Porto Alegre also suffers from the growing number of cars in its streets, being the capital with the highest number of vehicles per capita in the country. This fact made private parking lots proliferate, demanded by the saturation of the road network that struggles to support so many vehicles. The E-BOX does not follow the common configuration of the other parking lots. Our design intention was to prove that the limitations imposed by the function, program and dimensions of the plot are not an obstacle to provide quality of space.
With a shallow terrain (36m) and front (16m) and the need for an office on the property, the small scale of the project allows a unique and differentiated language for this parking lot.
The building – which is essentially a box - shares an office for administration, window space and two toilets in an area equivalent to the size of a car seat. The distribution in plan seeks the simplicity and the best use of the spaces, exploring to the maximum the functionality of the set and the harmony between the formal and structural qualities.
