CME

Medical Business Centre
Campina Grande, Paraíba, Brazil
2013-2019

CME is a new vertical landmark in Campina Grande, a city that favors the development of a unique urban character: a low-density area with low rise buildings uninterrupted by high vertical elements. Two antagonistic scales that generate a unique identity when combined.

In this context, CME works on a double-scale logic: multiple openings and connections in a pedestrian-scale basement; simplicity and sobriety in the metropolitan tower.

The double height basement is accessed from the front through an open square that serves as a connection between the outdoor commercial corridor and the interior hall. From the lateral façade, which is adapted to the elevation of the topography, one can access the Dr. Severino Bezerra de Carvalo Cultural Centre, connected internally to the hall, to the service and parking area.

The tower is 115m high and it is presented as a new urban symbol that bets on simplicity as a message. A sober and high-quality interface, composed by vertical bricks of monochromatic granite, generating a homogenous façade that is rich in transparencies and play of light providing a clear reading of the building from all over the city. Its simple structure offers the flexibility of interior configurations that the program requires.

CME thus contemplates the requirements of a commercial commission without neglecting the construction of the urban image of the city and contributing to an enriching experience of the street as a public space.
