Appian Way Residence belongs to an iconic place. Thus, from the winding slopes of Hollywood Hills in Los Angeles, the house seeks to give prominence to the views of a city that persists in everyone’s collective imaginary.
Located on a challenging slope with more than 35 ° of inclination and bounded by strict volumetric regulations, the residence adapts to the contour of the terrain in a staggered way. Three large horizontal pieces, which open to frame different scenes of Californian urban vastness, are arranged in a descending sequence that invites to be traveled. In this way, the emergence of several open terraces with water planes and swimming pools that expand and blur the limits between interior and exterior is enabled.
Designed to be constructed efficiently, the structure allows the presence of the original terrain of dry and desert vegetation to coexist with the interior spaces. Likewise, sustainability strategies, such as the use of renewable energy and the creation of shaded areas, transform the house into an artifact that respects the complex environment where it is implanted.
